Nominet scam.
« on: April 22, 2016, 08:04:44 AM »
Nominet is the UK domain name registrar.

One of my clients got a phone call from 'Shauna', claiming to be from Nominet and selling two domain names related to my clients business area, and claiming that the domains were 12 years old with lots of backlinks and 'seo done to them' (sic), for only £199 each and £30 per year maintenance or £300 if you buy both.

I checked the domains, they were rubbish and available for the standard .co.uk price (£7.99).

I checked out real phone numbers for Nominet and none of them had the same prefix as dear Shaunas.

The number she gave (i assume it's a VOIP) was 01229 314049.

I called her to give her a hard time but it's screened by a virtual PBX.

Just a heads up.

Happy Friday :)

Gary.

Clients of mine have had these calls before.  Nominet are aware, although don't seem all that bothered.
