Jokes aside, most of this stuff seems to be hardwired into people as far as attraction goes -- it has to do with fitness for reproduction and the perceived ability to take care of children.  This is why strength in males and hip-to-waist ratios in females are associated with  attraction.  It is evolution at work.

“It’s nice to see evolutionary psychology treating everybody like pieces of meat,” she said, “not just women.”

I had a particularly non-reflective female roommate who one day was getting all upset that "men just want women with small butts and big breasts."

I said, "Anne, just two days ago you told me that any man you dated had to be tall and have beautiful eyes."

"Well, that's totally different!"

"How so?"

"Okay, I guess it isn't."

As for the original article, though, I wonder if there's an exception for high-level rock climbers who, traditionally are marginally employed people living in vans with off the charts grip strength (measured as strength to weight, of course).

I've had very similar conversations.
