Agreed. I have noticed that when I was trying to fit my semi-volunteer snowplowing work into a busy schedule, I would get kind of surly about it and complain about my neighbors not wanting to step up. But during the Covid winters when I didn't have that much to do, I found I got real satisfaction out of plowing the roads and contributing to the community.

I've also found that work that involved rearranging molecules tends to give more direct and immediate gratification than work that involves rearranging electrons.
