My first outing was Nottingham... a couple at the Duke of York, got to Boston, Florida. Stopped going abroad when WMW got too big imho.
I cannot network 2000 people.
My first public apperance was in Irvine and I went to WMW in Boston, Florida, and the first couple in Vegas. I also have been to Affiliate Summit about 8 or 9 times and a couple other smaller shows.

Peter, why did you not make it to Copenhagen?
-
Ah, shouldn't forget Lisbon. A definite highlight.
We REALLY should do Lisbon again - I thought the venue was perfect for that size of meeting - the late night poolside meals and drinking sessions were great.
-
wmw Boston
wmw London 2002-4
webmastersinthesun San Diego once and Marbella twice, with the Tour of 888 in Gib by Assif, to show me all the data, as it was my old world......scary after years of looking after Investment bank data centres to see 888 running everything on something so crap:):)
Since 2006 have really hidden away except some of the small events
Now hiding more and more

-
Crikey - I forgot we that we had so many meetings!
Really hard to pick the best from them - they were all great.
re: Leona's Wedding
That one sucked though - we drove all that way to meet with Leona, and she spent most of her time poncing round in a fancy dress talking to some other bloke - so bloody inconsiderate ;)
-
pubcon 2003, Citie of York/Islington hotel and a few more London ones
pubcon 2004 in Orlando
Stansted Threadwatch in 2005
Citie of York SEO Roadshow 2005 as well?

1st and should have been last ;) - Threadwatch meeting in Stanstead
Still can't forget all those irish dancers at the syndk8 meet :o one classy hotel
Nottingham was great despite the £100 taxi home ;D
-
Ha, that was a classic Mick. Thank God you (and Ian) were there for me to hide behind
Ah look - the original thread :) http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum7/306.htm
-
Just a thought - why don't we hire a room / bar somewhere for a day?
.. a quote from Mr 'Nicebloke'
This changed it from a few mates meeting for a drink to a 'proper meeting'
Credit due NB
-
... and worth mentioning, the Bristol meeting is very close the ten year anniversary of the original Pubcon.
:)
-
heh. You going to phone Brett and invite him?
Threadwatch was my first, I regret never having made the pubcons in what are sometimes described as the good old days, and sometimes as hell on earth :)
-
Ha! So, then NFFC found the spot. might have guessed it.
First time I met Mark properly, I had had too many beers and we were in a fast food Chicken outlet at about 2am. Which meet I cannot remember.
(That is not a measure of me being drunk, just old age ;D)
heh. You going to phone Brett and invite him?
you tinker.
-
Best thing on my first (twas in Manchester of course) was the room (!) sharing :)
-
Adam, I've got a vague recollection that you, and a guy who went by the nic of VinceVinceVince on WMW were the first people I spoke to at Pubcon V. Could be wrong though...
-
>>>remember the swingers
how could you forget that night Rupert :)
I have been to York but it was only a small group when Drew and his wife was over from the states and they traveled down from Scotland
the memories I will always cherish are:-
1..the excellent restaurants I have dined in, Orlando was steak to die for, Barcelona was just exceptional food, Nottingham the best Japanese restaurant I have eaten in ( hang on a minute its the only Japanese restaurant i have eaten in :) )
2..DaveN and myself at the Stanstead meeting whilst sat eating our evening meal with tears rolling down our faces laughing at Peter Kay jokes and comments
3..Barcelona, RC was over in Europe and 12 of us met up.....what a weekend, I will never ever forget that
4..spending 2 - 3 hours in a car with 4eyes traveling to various meeting........priceless
5..300 people in the hotel lobby at pubcon 5, the atmosphere was unbelievably friendly and helpful with people sharing ideas and giving advice
6..when buckworks walked into the computer room at the hotel in Orlando and scared me to death with the opening line " right who want to talk about the internet then" I just stood there and froze as I was still wet behind the ears and lacking confidence when it came to discussing web related stuff at that time and especially with someone i had never met before
many other fantastic memories too these are just what came to mind
one thing i must say though even though Brett is not the best liked person on the planet anymore, if it was not for me being a member of webmasterworld I would never of heard of pubcon and not met all the members here and many more elsewhere...so a big thanks to everyone
-
Adam, I've got a vague recollection that you, and a guy who went by the nic of VinceVinceVince on WMW were the first people I spoke to at Pubcon V. Could be wrong though...
quite possibly. I'm sure we've met at some point. SEO Roadshow if not pubcon
-
Mick,
Just because in Bolton Swinging is an every day event, :-* in Derbyshire it doesn't happen so often. So yes, I remember. :)
I remember none of them looking very happy either......
but I didn't hang at the door waiting for them to walk through.
-
yeah i forgot Derbyshire is into incest rather than swinging, keep it in the family and all that :)
what was sick was the woman on the calipers being escorted to the large room by the guy wearing the d##k Turpin mask
-
L.A., Boston, Orlando, Vegas. Had a blast every time!
-
Too many to list but certainly the first ever Pubcon when Mackin came over was a classic. Even managed a quiet meal with Mackin the night before. Of course, I had to pretend the event was a more official 'marketing opportunity' to get there without having to take a day off for it. :D
-
wow, you guys not only have good memories, but you also have a good memory:)
Mine is more like: Vegas a bunch of times, New Orleans a few times, England 2X... probably somewhere else(?)... for a bunch of conferences, the names of which I probably didn't know at the time, but probably had three letters in it:)
Awesome times. I have only a few pictures from Nottingham, otherwise not much except a million hotel rooms, casinos, and bars and faces stored in my head, navigated only by a tag cloud:)
-
A couple of London pubcons and a few affiliate meetups and thats about it for me
-
I made it to all pubcons except for the second Boston and pubcon 6.5 (London). I'm missing my first Vegas pubcon next week in favor of a vacation. Brett no officially holds the title for most pubcons by himself.
I was always jealous of the UK meetups yall pulled together. Been way to long since I've seen many of you. I should try and fix that. Many good memories. :)
-
That one in Hammersmith with the St Trinians birds was a good one.
-
last time i saw you oilman was pubcon 6.5 at the novotel where we played texas holdem all night and was still up when the hotel was getting the breakfast prepared the following morning, a great night indeed and lots of memories of that meeting
-
Mick - I think it's been even longer. I didn't make it to 6.5 :)
-
re: Leona's Wedding
That one sucked though - we drove all that way to meet with Leona, and she spent most of her time poncing round in a fancy dress talking to some other bloke - so bloody inconsiderate ;)
Lol yeh that one was a pants meet, far too many non geeks there and all that music and dancing getting in the way of important tin foil hat talk, very inconsiderate, I blame the person that organised that one! It was great you guys came, shame you couldn't come to the after party ;), but was fantastic to have you there :-*
I popped my seo meet cherry in Nottingham back in 2002, was it? Also a couple of Nottingham meets after
couple of London pubcons 2004 and one after and then a normal london meet I think
few Manchester meets.
Fond memories of them all (not so fond memories of the hangovers the morning after), I still laugh at some of the business ideas that came out in those meets in the wee hours, none can be repeated in an open forum! :o To say I was normally one of the youngest there, I was never the last to go to bed! You guys are hard to keep up with :)
-
My first Pubcon was Orlando but the first time I met people from the forums was local in Chicago, and then when there was an SES at town Jake was speaking at it.
From there I went to a bunch of other pubcons and many SESs.
I think the last pubcon I went to was in Austin like 4 years back. I have booked New Orleans this year though, just to go.
The other things I went to were WITS - Webmasters In the Sun In Spain & San Diego (2005 & 6?)
Todd are you going to New Orleans? I have not seen you in years.
-
Hmmm
There seems to have been a lot of meetings in Nottingham, more than I have been invited to!
Claims to fame.
Had dogboy round my house, had Seobook sleep on my sofa.
Dogboy was a long time ago, my daughter still remembers him though, great brand :)
<added>
Oh I forgot, had littleman, mackin and family eat fish, chips and mushy peas at my house. Great days!
<added 2>
I'm not doing this again!
DaveN and toolman sleeping on beanbags in a half plastered spare room.
RC and the awesome louise spreading wonderfulness throughout Nottingham.
Catching ukgimp knocking a quick one out in the bathroom.
4eyes for breakfast.
-
Sent this OLD thread to a few MFs Monday.
http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum10009/2247.htm
Makes me feel as good as eating mushy peas
-
>Nottingham
One of the nicest places in the UK. The Royal Oak was kind of disappointing, but your house and your lovely family and the dinners and treats was fabulous. We'll get you to go with us to Edinbough next time ;-)
-
>>Catching ukgimp knocking a quick one out in the bathroom.
WTF, you saw that?
-
Mind the gap.
Louise & I ate at Jestine's in Charleston a couple of weeks ago. One of my all-around favorite restaurants. (And now has a queue even in the off season.)
Anyway, the owner came over and talked for a while. She remembered The Redneck Tour group.
-
I still think back on the Redneck Tour from time to time. It was awesome.
-
I remember Jestine's when NFFC wanted to taste all my side dishes.
-
I think my first proper meet-up was Pubcon, the first one, which was all very spontaneous at the time really, hastily put together around the fact that Mike was going to be over here on a trip anyway.
-
It was my FIRST trip on the London Tube and it was amazing.
Drunk MFs everywhere. And the Birds were wanting "IT"
Good to see ya here BK
-
First was Boston WMW where I randomly met jcoronella and drastic. red pill moment.
