Model rockets - thoroughly enjoyed by every age, gender and culture I've tried them with (male/female of course, ages 5-60, but alas only Americans and Swiss for culture). Of course, typically people past a certain age aren't excited by them, but if it's a joint gift to a kid and a parent, the parent will force herself to go out and launch with the kid. And then go WOW!

Thanks you just solved the missing present for my youngest lad!

@Bill,

I have to say, the domain idea went over very, very well.  I had no idea what to get my sis and her fiance, so I got them a domain of their new last name, set it up with mail and a quickie wordpress site with an easy-to-configure template.

I gave them a box which only had their names and password next to them on a card and when they looked at me with the "What is this" look, I brought out my laptop with the site already pulled up on it.  They were very happy.

Have a look:  http://www.Jacknowitz.com

You saved my butt!  Thank you!  (Yes, that is Leonard Nimoy in the Star Trek picture.  Reload if you don't see it...)

@grnidone  I'm very glad to hear that worked out for you. It's a favorite old trick I've used several times for my less than technically inclined friends. It's always a hit. They would never know how to set something like this up on their own and they think it's a huge undertaking. Glad to see that the .com of their name was available. That makes it extra special. ;)

Ha! You buy the gun, I'll buy the spray paint:)

Btw, I just got a 'Crimson Trace' red dot sight on my Beretta (it's actually integrated into the grip - you barely notice it) from my dad:) I took it to the range yesterday, along with that 590 he bought me, and killed paper zombies with it. It was outstanding. I want one for the shotgun.
