Back from Affiliate Summit East
« on: August 25, 2011, 08:02:30 PM »
Just got back from Affiliate Summit East in New York City. I am pretty sure the only other Core members there were Jim Banks and Jangro.

Anyway, it was a great time and if any of you are looking for a fun conference to check out I would recommend it. The next one will be in Vegas in January. I won't be able to make it to that one since I will probably have a 2 week old baby and a wife to take care of but if you can make it you should. If not it should be back in New York in August next year.

Great time hanging with friends, spending way to much time at the bar, talking with people smarter than me, golfing, a Yankees game, great food, and some great parties.

The best session I sat in on was from Wil Reynolds of SeerInteractive. He is one of the very few people I would actualy pay to hear speak. He always has some great tips for link building and SEO stuff. Here are two that really stood out:

1. Set up a scholarship. Even if it is just $500 or $1000 or so. Then get ahold of schools and colleges that have lists of scholarships and have them list you on their lists of scholarships. Great way to get some real EDU links.

2. If you see a page or a tool or something that has a bunch of links to it that is broken you can rebuild it, send a email to the people who were linking to it telling them you have rebuilt that resource and give them the link to your page

Neither of those two methods is groundbreaking or anything like that but I had never really thought of them before.

The scholarship idea is a nice twist on the simple donation to a (insert random) cause idea and getting yourself on a donation page somewhere. Nice that the scholarship plan can be played across a variety of colleges. Thanks for sharing that one!

Thanks for posting that.

Haven't watched all of the vid as I'm supposed to be working on my own website this evening, but the bit about looking for .edu links in your topic by typing in:

"<inserttopic> site:.edu"

...is a great shout.

Simple, but just didn't think of it. Will definitely be using that in my journey to become more and more white-hat ;-)

Dang, the one Summit I miss and there are other Core members there. Well, except for Jim Banks. He is usually there but I have seen enough of him to last a lifetime.

Gotta sit this one out because of the baby. Can't think of too many things that would cause me to miss an Affiliate Summit but that is one of them.

ASW - Generally speakers were weak from the little I saw.

Loads of agencies, merchants and people saying "Gee we should hook up and do business together"

Met a couple of interesting people, and had chance to see a few people not seen for a while.

Overal bit dull really, especially as I don't like Vegas:)
