I wonder about insulation value and how those would be to heat in our climate.

I've owned a couple for about 20 years, which I use for materials storage.  I believe container construction has been modified very slightly since I purchased mine but they are still corrugated metal (usually sheet steel) boxes.  Insulation wouldn't be a problem if the exterior were clad in insulating foam.  The biggest problem I have is humidity and condensation but that would be easy to rectify when converting.

I've mentally toyed with using containers for modular residential construction for some years now. It definitely intrigues me, as does the 'tiny homes' movement.  The biggest problem is their narrow width --a real design constraint. That said, students and homeless can't be picky.

Nice job. Looks like 2 8x40s welded together lengthwise as a module for each level. That's pretty much what you have to do to get past the 8' narrowness problem.

No, I just watched spots of the video.  Except for the occasional brilliant idea, interior layouts don't interest me too much.  My attention is usually drawn to exterior profiles, windows, entrances, and stairwells --pretty much in that order.

That is seriously cool. $36k isn't bad.

By doubling the thickness of the wall to 16 inches, the R-value only increases by 0.50.
