This one caught my eye and reminded me of RC's Bear Story. I like that story:

>>everyone was nicer

Unless, of course, you had the misfortune to be born black, female, gay, liberal, non-conformist or had the misfortune to get old in the 1950s (elderly poverty rate was over 35% in 1959, currently around 9%). It drives me crazy when people romanticize the 1950s.

It seemed simple because people had their eyes closed.

This happened just across the river from my house.  Dammit, I still neeeed a bear cub or two.

A man thought someone left a box of puppies on his lawn. Nope, they were bear cubs

Came across this today on Reddit today.

Quote
I'm from Hawaii and when I enlisted in the military years ago, I was sent to Virginia to work in the Pentagon. Segregation was the law of the land in Virginia then. The first time I rode a bus there, I saw that it was segregated with Whites sitting in the front area and Blacks in the rear. Being of Asian descent, I wasn't sure where I was to sit. To be safe, I moved to the rear of the bus but was told by the riders there that it was Colored only. I moved to an empty seat in the front when I was told that it was the White section. So I finally decided to stand between the two groups and that seemed to be OK with everyone else on that bus. After that, I spent most of my time staying on the military base where no one questioned where I sat in the mess hall or any of the recreational facilities on base.
