Check the spreadsheet for the studies that back up the rankings, I'm not sure if/where they show up in the bubble chart.

>my optometrist told me to.

With docs, you have to decide whether you want to lead or be led, BW. They get caught up in the hype, too.

I did, which is why I asked.  It was as far as I could see the top for Joint pain:

from the study in 2009:

Quote
Natural Eggshell Membrane (NEM(R)) is a new novel dietary supplement that contains naturally occurring glycosaminoglycans and proteins essential for maintaining healthy articular cartilage and the surrounding synovium. The randomized, multicenter, double-blind, placebo-controlled Osteoarthritis Pain Treatment Incorporating NEM(R) clinical study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy and safety of NEM(R) as a treatment for pain and stiffness associated with osteoarthritis of the knee. Sixty-seven patients were randomly assigned to receive either oral NEM(R) 500 mg (n = 34) or placebo (n = 33) daily for 8 weeks. The primary endpoint was the change in overall Western Ontario and McMasters Universities (WOMAC) Osteoarthritis Index as well as pain, stiffness, and function WOMAC subscales measured at 10, 30, and 60 days. The clinical assessment was performed on the intent-to-treat population. Supplementation with NEM(R) produced an absolute rate of response that was statistically significant (up to 26.6%) versus placebo at all time points for both pain and stiffness, but was not significantly improved for function and overall WOMAC scores, although trending toward improvement. Rapid responses were seen for mean pain subscores (15.9% reduction, P = 0.036) and mean stiffness subscores (12.8% reduction, P = 0.024) occurring after only 10 days of supplementation. There were no serious adverse events reported during the study and the treatment was reported to be well tolerated by study participants. Natural Eggshell Membrane (NEM(R)) is an effective and safe option for the treatment of pain and stiffness associated with knee osteoarthritis. Supplementation with NEM(R), 500 mg taken once daily, significantly reduced both joint pain and stiffness compared to placebo at 10, 30, and 60 days.

highlighting is mine.

I think that was in 2009 though, so what I dont understand is why 7 years later no-one has tried to reproduce it.  One study is never enough.  Too much at stake.

From Holland And Barrett:
Quote
Egg membrane is the fibrous thin white film between the white of the egg and the shell. Its purpose is to protect the egg white and the yolk from damage. It is also packed full of nutrients like elastin, collagen & glucomsaminoglycans which naturally occur in the joints.

so eating the full egg every day (Boiled)  might do it. Its tempting with a cold mouse hand this morning!!!!

Me too, but I am pretty sure I dont get the shell lining...not sure if you do when you have a boiled egg and crack the shell off after its cooked. Not explored that, but it is certainly different.

Another good site. Nice find.

" Larger studies (which are seen as more reliable) tend to show no benefits with chondroitin nor glucosamine supplementation in isolation or combined.

Although many people do report benefit from using this supplement (especially when paired with Glucosamine), the current body of scientific literature does not hold these two supplements in high regard."

Looks like homeopathic and natural remedies just got some stricter labeling requirements.

I'll bet you Steak & Eggs at Waffle House that it doesn't stay in place with the Trump group.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say homeopathy believers trend liberal, so Trump might not get too much pushback from his constituents

ONLY 5%??? So one in 20 people I pass on the street think astrology is a good way to treat disease? I don't even know how that would work. Take some homeopathic remedy because Mars is retrograde? We're doomed.

Stumbled across this at the weekend.

Long story short.  My father in law (Alan) has dementia, and so Sue (my wife) is carer. He also has arthritis, and Sue found this in his house.

http://www.flexiseq.com

No idea where he got it, but she bought me some, as the cold has brought on a few aches. First 2 days, and my treated joints feel better. Might be coincidence.

The only reason I bothered with it were

No idea if it contain nagalese. Ref Ergophobe http://th3core.com/talk/water-coolerextra/obsolete-via-amazon/  (Even the name sounds bad :) )

On a serious note, there are 3 studies from Leeds university. However, the the name flexiseq  does not appear to be used in the clinical reports, and so while the clinical reports look like good solid studies, I have not this morning been able to conclusively link the product with the studies. no idea if it is available in the USA.

The most commonly used supplements, multivitamins, vitamin D, calcium and vitamin C, provided “no consistent benefit” for the prevention of cardiovascular disease or stroke, but niacin (vitamin B3) and antioxidants (vitamins A, C and E) were associated with an increased risk of all causes of death.

Vitamin D (prescribed by my doctor) makes a world of difference for depression for me in the winter time.  If I'm really down, I'll even do two minutes in a tanning bed.  Twenty minutes later, I feel like a new person...it's the weirdest thing.

I've also found that Magnesium supplements have taken away my panic attacks.

I seriously don't care if any of this is a placebo effect.  My life is better.

Definitely not placebo, SAD is a real thing. Amy uses a light for therapy in the winter, makes a big difference for her.

>Vitamin D

I'd consider adding Vitamin K, helps calcium get to the bones rather than the arteries apparently.

> Magnesium

I take ZMA, with also includes zinc and B6, helps many with sleep, great dreams too!
