People who had at least four cups of coffee a day had a 64% lower risk of mortality

PffffT!! Amateurs.  I drink 7 cups before I get out of bed in the morning. (Seriously, I have a coffee maker in the master bath.)

I've had to get off stimulants for a while.

Your post reminded me of this though:

>reminded me of this

That's pretty similar to mine, yes.

>get off stimulants

At 67, it quits stimulating. You just need it to have enough energy to draw another breath.

Hehe.

>PffffT!! Amateurs

Yup, I'm usually ending the day with diarrea from 8-10 cups. Getting worse as I drink more and more coffee.

I find it maddening that a 'cup' is 6oz -not 8- when referencing coffee machines.  To be clear, I drink 54 oz (1.6 liters) most days before lunch.  Black, very black. No sweetener. JUST coffee. How people can mess up coffee with all that crap they put in there is beyond me.

I literally ache for more coffee when I start coming off my high.  The cravings are mild enough to be ignored --but they're still cravings.  Luckily, as addictions go, it's a cheap one.

Like Rumbas, I picked up the habit at work. There was an endless supply of free coffee and a secretary who refilled my cup every time I finished it off.

People who travel with Rumbas & I have reported unexplained health benefits ...we think it's our caffeine-fueled aura.

At 67, it quits stimulating.

My grandmother is having a gathering of little old ladies and the conversation moves to coffee drinking. "Oh I can't drink coffee in the afternoon. Keeps me up all night. What about you Shirely." "No Esmerelda, if I drink it in the evening, I can't fall asleep." Etc Etc Etc.

Finally one turns to my grandfather and says "What about you Ed? Does coffee keep you awake?"

My grandfather, a wry and laconic person even in his youth, rouses himself in his rocker and says "No, but it helps."

Back in the days before coffee was a superfood and elixir of life and people used to apologize for drinking it, a friend said: "I was never productive before noon ever in my life before the age of 35, when I discovered coffee."

Since then, he has gotten a PhD and published at least four books.
