If it's any consolation, this is exactly what happens in Yosemite too
There are accidents everywhere and people are abandoning their cars on the side of and even IN the road.
Of course, here it takes 2.5 feet, not 2.5 inches, but same issue. Half the cars abandoned IN the road here are because people have shovels, but not conscience. Last storm, someone parked across the deadend road about half a mile from the end of said road perpendicular to the direction of traffic, the car facing the driveway and two feet away from it. 30 minutes with a shovel would have resulted in an open road that the plow could have driven down. But no. Driver was tired. Went to bed. Left the car until morning.
