I imagine it would be fun to see how far a bot could get on Twitter by auto replying on subjects in some niches.
Could it be a good way for a twitter newbie (me) to collect some more followers ?

Sounds like a great idea. Twitter followers are easy to get just by following though.

Hey Damian!
I was researching the current state of AI chatbots last month. Ran across this...
Purchase the Superbot development kit today for $999.

Is that the outfit Mikkel was involved with? I know he's got a long standing interest in the field

Alice is still around?! Damn... that's a dejavu moment. ;D

>Mikkel
I'm pretty sure this is strictly EDU-based.
>Alice
Yeah, but there's a more popular one now. I forget the name.
But look at this:

Supposedly this is the chat bot concerned:
hxxp://ai.bluemars.com/chat/
.. is so, the expert concerned was pretty useless - I tripped it up in 3 questions.
If you don't answer its questions, it reacts as if you did - useless.
Curly - what is your real name please
[ Af:0 At:13 Sp:0] It's fun chatting with you. Tell me about your hair.
Curly - I can't tell you unless you tell me your real name
[ Af:0 At:13 Sp:0] I have never read unless.
... they claim it is the bot the 'beat the expert' - always possible it is s fake though I guess
-
I read a review of the Turing test. Basically, the humans involved screwed up and the bot didn't at that particular time. But the bots are definitely progressing.
-
Indeed not convincing as human yet in full chat. Appearing human in Twitter or on blogs seems like a much easier test though.
Do you think the Climate Change bot could have passed as (a somewhat obsessed) human if it tried ?
"If in any doubt, say nothing or look for human help" would probably be a wise start for that type of application and lower the requirements quiet a bit.
When staying in a niche like the Climate Change bot it should not be hard to come up with predefined trigger lists and logic.
Creating good filters to avoid spamming people too much may be the most difficult. I noticed the Climate bot lecturing somebody who was only joking.. the bot missed the humor and should probably add a 'humor filter' or something.

*ahem* most of us already know someone who's into Twitter automation (or at least semi-automation) in a big way. Possibly it would be a good idea to get him over?
-
>to get him over?
Absolutely.
-
Yes, but I havent seen the slippery little monkey on MSN for a few days
-
Slippery monkey is a new one on me ::)
Hello all.... long time no see - did you want me?
