As the chart shows, pretty much wholesale prices are responsible. In the UK, most fossil fuel used for electricity generation is via gas.

Not a jot, for me. The writing has been there for a while. There was a non-windy period this time last year where the wholesale price shot up, way before any action in Ukraine.
Seems like it's going to be rough for your average European, but not bad enough to cave into his lot.
