Not read the Page (allergic to the daily mail), but wouldn't the butter slide off the knife?

My single criteria when buing things for the kitchen is -

1. Does it go in the dishwasher?

I overcame my fear and visited the Daily Mail site to watch that. Knife is quite cool (although there is no need to keep butter in the fridge for most people, so it is ultimately pointless) . However the mails way of embedding video and prompting for the page to be shared is pretty interesting. Rather savvy of them.

haha. will make a note next time Rooftop... and that's a good point about the butter sliding off. I can see it being a frustrating experience to the point that its thrown in the sink and a normal knife taken out of the draw because it's taken that long the butter is now at room temperature lol.

I don't see the point of a dishwasher. Things need to be rinsed off before they go in so you might as well wash it at the same time :P

This is even more shocking than the scaremongering I avoid in the mail!

You don't need to rinse everything just the most dirty things.  We don't usually bother as the dishwasher does a rinse cycle first.

These are my dishwasher justification calculations -

Time spent washing up for our family of 6 = 1hr/day or 365hrs a year.

Add the time we would have spent cleaning and sterilising our kids bottles and beer brewing kit (a good dishwasher does this) over the years 250hrs

over the 18 years I have had one, that work out at 6820hrs.  Even if you value your free time at UK minimum wage (£6.08/hr) that is £41,465.60

I have bought 2 dishwashers in 18 years, total cost £750.  Lets say it costs 40p to run each hour for an hour a day = £2728

£41465.60 - £3478 = £37,987.60 saving or 6820hrs (284days) of mine/my wifes time.

 ;)

That is exactly what my first wife said before buying me a dishwasher and then giving me my divorce papers  ;)
