Any recommended IE browser testers?
« on: February 10, 2018, 11:15:57 AM »
Have an issue with an unknown version of IE that I can't replicate, all of the free online ones are not showing the fault on any of the IE versions. Do you guys recommend a program or site you would recommend before I build a virtual machine to test?

You're testing.  For an issue.  With Internet Explorer.

Help me understand.

I used to use Spoon, which is now turbo.net, but honestly, these days browsers auto-update so fast, I don't usually pay that much attention to outdated versions

https://turbo.net/browsers

I've used this, but have not for a very, very long time needed a monthly subscription for this type of thing. But IIR it works

Thanks ergophobe I will look into those.

Grindone -  some of my customers are not able to add to cart on IE, now I don't know what version they are using (it was hard enough to find out what browser). I can't replicate the issue so I need to find a way to do this to make sure it is fixed as I only find out when someone calls to tell me and pay over the phone. I need to be able to support older browsers as I am dealing with large corporations and government/healthcare bodies that, as we know, can be working off old systems.

Is there a URL and steps you can PM me?

I've got a VMware ESXi setup with every IE from IE5. Happy to help if I can.

Okay so ended up doing a virtual windows 7 machine for peace of mind as the browser testing was throwing up weird structuring, and after further investigation on the clients that had issues, it looks like it is IE 7 is the culprit and I have larger problems than adding to cart right now, however, I think this new issue may have only been from last week. Ahhh the joys of web dev, down the rabbit hole I go. I will add my feedback on turbo.net (as this is free) once I have fixed some issues :o

Thanks Jetboy, so after a few hours looking into it, it looks like there is no way I can support these browsers on my platform and it is a choice of using AWS and cloudfront to speed up the website and losing what little there was left or the site running slower for the rest of them. This is a shame as I have had a few customers come to me with this issue. I hope it doesn't hurt the bottom line too much.

Also to confirm turbo.net is bringing up the same results as the virtual machine and it is free

Thanks. Haven't used it in years, so I wasn't sure.

BTW, I think it's "freemium" - at least in the old days, some apps were free and some were only available to premium customers, but major browsers were free if I recall

Yes you are right, when I first used it I could test all the ie browsers but went to use it yesterday and it wouldn't let me without buying a subscription.
