Dvorak: Facebook = Ghetto
« on: March 19, 2011, 12:40:23 PM »
Heh, most of the time I think Dvorak is full of BS, but he's having a go at Facebook and I have to agree.  I particularly like his observation that it is the new AOL, and also it is what AOL should have evolved into.

Still, FB is where the eyeballs are at so ride the wave while we can.

A hugely popular ghetto.

I was just talking to a guy in the travel space who claimed that his ads in FB are getting about the same ROI as search ads, he's basically claiming that the poor conversion rate is made up for by the low CPC.  In my experience the conversion rate has been near zero, so I'm not seeing it.

It has to be nice to have a viable alternative to Google for ads.  I can't deny the success of FB and at least they have figured out a way to monetize it.

I have found in the few tests I have done with FB ads that they do convert quite well (a better percentage than adwords), but I can't get the price to a level where it makes enough ROI.

I guess it depends on what you are selling, but I do like the targeted ad tools on FB.
