« on: February 25, 2016, 10:17:55 AM »
Anybody been able to use the seobook toolbar on Firefox recently?

I miss some of the features, but Firefox wont let me run the toolbar on the lastest FF version 44.0.2

I believe Firefox 43 required extension makers to sign their extensions. That required us to do a significant amount of rewriting of the extensions, in part to adopt some new more Chrome-like framework.

Until we were able to get the extensions re-signed the short/easy answer was to disable the signing requirements in Firefox.
(instructions here seobook.com/restoring-firefox-extensions )

We did get the extensions re-signed, though I am not sure how the update process works on that front because I am not sure if the update automatically triggers once an extension has been disabled for not being signed. If you have them disabled and they were not automatically updated and re-enabled without doing the above shift, then the next best bet might be to install the extensions new once again (via seobook.com/download-your-free-seo-tools/ ) though I am not sure if doing that could potentially overwrite SQLite databases if you have stored automated rank checking updates with a long chunk of historical data. if you do & you don't want to risk that then you might want to do the first option for restoring the extensions then have them update & then turn back on the extension signing option if you want to.

Tried to add you on Skype a few weeks ago with the intent of getting you over to Hanoi mid-May with the rest of the crew, you ignored me ;)

Would never intentionally do that sir.  :o

Was the Skype username something other than NFFC or TheNFFC?

I guess I should have looked more into the (apparently?) official rebrand, but knowing what I knew, I thought those were just rumors.  ???

I rarely use Seo for Firefox anymore. Back when the algos were easier (more link-based with less brand-related stuff) it was great for quick looking at link data, but now of course the game is much more than building links.

I like being able to do quick spot checking of ranking with rank checker, though I am a big fan of Advanced Web Ranking for their interface and charting.

I like using the toolbar rather often for things like quickly seeing the links into a page, the ranking footprint of a site via SEMrush, or viewing the Google cache version of a page.

Sorry you had trouble with the toolbar. I've been pretty frustrated with some of the moves Mozilla has made trying to chase Google Chrome.

The sad part is that Mozilla wouldn't have lost much of their userbase to Google Chrome if they would have did a deal with Adobe to prevent Firefox users from repeatedly being bombarded with Adobe Flash updates that negative option bundle Google Chrome and set it as the default web browser. My guess is something like a half or even 2/3 of the Google Chrome install base is from Adobe Flash security updates and similar bundleware methods.

I am glad we didn't make extensions for Google Chrome, as they've been even far more restrictive with what they allow (forcing installs exclusively from the Google store, etc.)
