Facebook seems to be officially displacing Google as the new Microsoft.

That said, it's much easier to opt out of Facebook than Google or, in its heyday, Microsoft.

Except for millions, FB is the Web now and they know of no other.  I'm amazed how many small local businesses only have a FB page and don't have even have a simple Web page.  Worse, they only market their business online through FB, some are really good at it, but they have no idea what else they can do online, nor do they have time for it.

Me too. In certain sectors, it can be hard to find a website at all. Budget, non-chain restaurants, for example. Almost always just Yelp and Facebook.

That said, those businesses are being bombarded by ads from Wix and Weebly and Squarespace. If they had any interest in opting out, they could do so in a couple of hours.
