This infographic shows countries in which there have been reports of armed clashes involving state forces and/or rebel groups in 2020. Even using this simplified definition, the presence of war across the world is extensive.

Sad how poverty, bad governance and violence work together in a death spiral for so much of Africa.

It's going to get worse in the Middle East and Africa.  The boundaries of all those countries were set by the old imperial rulers and cut right through ethnic, clan, tribal, religious and language groups.  Most of these groups don't get along that well with each other.  This is not a recipe for long term peace and stability.  It's one of the reasons you have so many strong man rulers instead of democracies because only a dictator type can keep the different groups in line.

Also, you still have the the former colonial powers, China, US, Russia, plus non-state actors, each trying to continue to exploit these countries for their own gain.

>>China

Watch what happens there. I previously recommended HR McMaster's article in The Atlantic. I would recommend it again. A former Trump insider in a well-known liberal magazine feels like it has balance and credibility.

We were built for war i think, most major societal change is due to it, we seem to have to beat peace into each others' heads.
