Radiolab did an episode on this when the system was first tested in the US in 2015. Worth a listen

Listen to that podcast. It enables things that CCTV struggles with. Namely, it lets the authorities "rewind the clock" more effectively. Perhaps in the UK (and certainly in China) the CCTV network is assembled in such a way that you can always trace back from one camera to another, but can they, with great confidence, trace a vehicle back from the crime scene to its starting point, many miles away on country roads?
