I have been thinking that I have not had a break from being 'available' and 'connected' all the time for over 2 years! Sometimes I find that on a day off I get an email to my phone which then leads to me working when I probably shouldn't be.
I am going to turn of my phones and router tonight and leave them off until Monday.
Does anyone here do that on a regular basis? When was the last time you were not 'connected'?
Couple a weeks a year on holiday, no phone no internet.
Can't do it, the DTs are too rough.
yeah - mad thing to attempt
It is 100% guaranteed that servers will go down and incompetent business partners will 'fix' things in a way that f***s things up for the next 6 months at least.
lol, you could all be right! Still, I'll know nothing about it until Monday. 2hrs to go....
Check e-mail once a day. It'll take a minute if nothing is important, switch it all off...
Off to Spain in a few weeks and I'll just be pinging 2 servers to make sure they're up and check e-mail.... the rest will be sun and beer!
Back in the day when I was racing dogs and training for russia, I checked email once every 3 weeks and let everything run on autopilot for months.
It's funny that we find it so important to be connected by the Internet. I remember thinking I didn't even need a cell phone. Now I'd be nurotic without it.
I think it's important to draw the line in the sand and take time for yourself. It's not just your business we are talking about, it's your life.

Well, I did it! I sent one email on Saturday morning and then switched everything off until 30mins ago.
Did anything go wrong? No nothing!
Was it worth it? Yes, I feel so relaxed now that I am going to make it a regular weekend thing. I hate to think how many hours I would normally spend at the computer over a weekend.
Bloody Marvelous! Well done. Something everyone should do, as
Yes, I do it, but always with difficulty. The fist couple of days are the worst. In the summer I try to take 3 weeks away. Sometimes I get a phone call, but it is usually manageable.
It takes me a week to unwind, so I have 2 weeks of holiday. I find that towards the end I find I am revving up again.
