Title: Elk herds in CO
Post by: dogboy on April 13, 2011, 04:44:40 PM
I lived out in the western US for years, but I was thinking some of you from urban areas in the States and overseas might get a kick out of our Elk herds. This is in Estes Park, Colorado. We actually have this issue in a few counties in Central PA as well...

Many years ago, I saw a documentary on the elk in Banff that was part of the Banff film festival, and there was a quote from a wildlife biologist that has always stuck with me. He said: "The problem is that there are two species living in this valley, and one of those species has the ability to live anywhere on the planet while the other can only live in very specific habitat, yet we're expecting the second one to move, not the first."

That's a rough quote since it was 17 years ago that I saw the film

Wow, glad the locals in Ashbourne are not so aggressive!

HOLY SHIT!  I had no idea that elk were so large!  I figured they were the size of a muley.  (Mule deer)
