Title: When every chat app in the world has died off, email will still be here.

I was recently having this conversation with someone. Email is horrible, but it has some super powers
- I can register a domain, use that for my email, and at that point basically only ICANN can take away my email address.
- It is a completely open protocol
- It is distributed

Those things make it hard to profit from and hard to kill.

Basecamp is making a go at remaking email to make it more user friendly with Hey.com. Email can be saved. I don't think Slack can.

I keep fighting my 3 girls to "READ YOUR F-ING EMAIL!".

They cannot fathom that they need to check their emails once in a while. We still get a lot of info from the gov, schools etc. However it is simply not common for them. Just got the middle one a new Mac and first thing I did was to install a mail app/software. They never seen something like that before and still don't get why I even bother..

I am proud to say I do better with Lucy.  She now reads the subject.  Working on getting her to read the content.  ::)

Louise bcc's our grandkids' parents when she emails the kid.  That usually gets a 3-word 'forced' email reply.

The companies sliding into workers' personal DMs

Work communication has certainly become more casual – but what happens when your texts and social-media inboxes are filled with colleagues' messages?

BTW - one of the reasons is because younger workers increasingly don't respond to emails

My 14 yo granddaughter says all her friends laugh when she tells them that I want her to email me.
