if they are used for sport only then i can see the fun but the trouble is you put one in the wrong hands and some innocent person is sadly going to be blown away and quite often does
I had a lot of fun with a powerful air rife with telescopic sights and a 410 poachers gun in the late 80's where it broke down into 3 parts to hide in your long over coat so the game keeper could not find it but when we had a gun amnesty a few years later after the Hungerford and Dunblane shootings I got rid of it as now you get 5 years just for possession in the UK

I've always wanted an under/over. Not as impressive looking as the side by side, but more accurate.
We had one for the mormons in college. It was a broken old thing that didn't do anything but have that nice CLICK CLICK sound when you cocked it. We only had to use it once.
Shooting (any gun) is fun... hunting is definitely not for everyone. But shooting targets, skeet, bottles, is really a kick, imo.
This one, honestly, is really for home defense and killing people... even if they are standing on the other side of a wall:) I only have my 9mm down here tucked under the mattress, but I never felt like it was 'enough'. Granted, I grew up with a selection of guns and ammo to choose from so just having one is never enough for all occasions.
A few years back, right before I came, this place got hit with a hurricane, and after that left the city without power for a few weeks, looters were stealing the bricks out of people's driveways and breaking in their houses at gun and knife point. My neighbor told me he only had a spear gun (which actually is pretty intimidating, imo) that he used to persuade a guy from climbing through his window ...but a spear gun is nothing compared to this thing.
Plus, you know me... I like my meat clean, and I'm 2 steaks away from finishing that deer I shot back in December (see http://th3core.com/talk/white-courtesy-telephone/rc/) ...and these things are running wild down here, and causing all sorts of environmental destruction in the Everglades. So it's a rare occasion to step up (with no license needed) and and help balance the ecosystem with 3" magnums, and get 6 dozen pulled pork sandwiches out of the deal in the process that would probably even entice poor old Rumbus swim down here, with a crate of BBQ sauce leased to his ankle like a surfboard:)
So for me, this is GREAT present. Fun, safe, tasty.

But that's also makes it a big fat target for looters apparently, when the security alarms go down and the streets are blocked by downed trees. This whole South Florida scene is like that.... segregated and crazy.

...but at it's heart, is the action mechanism that they were bragging about in the product description. It's a notoriously reliable gun.
...as far as the pig goes, that is definitely about as big as they get, and they do charge... as in, they charge EVERY time, not just when they are cornered. They do not like people and they are one of the most dangerous animals you can hunt down here, honestly, for that very reason.
But I want to just get some little ones... like the size of a dog. Something that we can throw on one of those grills they have at the beach. Little ones will taste much better than some old massive boar. But whatever comes my way. I don't think we will use dogs to track them down and immobilize them (because I don't know anyone with a Pitbull that isn't just for show, and has experience tangling with them) so I think it's just going to be me going Rambo on their their a##:)

There's a couple things to note though... first, in the photo above they are playing with the camera angles to make the animal look bigger than it is. (Old hunting trick #26.) Second, that is indeed a big f###ing pig:)
Normally, the pigs down here are mostly under 100lbs. A huge one is maybe 150lb. It's true they can grow to be in the hundreds of pounds, but it's very uncommon. But they are mean as hell, charge routinely and are extremely destructive to farms and to water sources, where they like to wallow and crap in the water until the whole area is ruined for the regular animals who live there. And that isn't me just rationalizing things. They actually are getting on the news as they are coming into towns (or the towns come into them, more likely.)
Texas has open season all year on feral pigs. People are encouraged to shoot as many as they like due to the fact they are non-native and extremely prolific.
same here, same every where they exist. You don't have to have a hunting license and there is no limit in many cases. Same in Australia, from what I hear too, but we need Woz to lend a little insight as to what's up over there.

I've been to a real range only 2X, and while it's pretty cool to to check out different weapons to get a feel for them, imo, it's 10X more fun to shoot into water.... especially with the full autos. It gives you real-time feedback as to where the rounds are going, and it's awesome to see the water jumping around. The friends I've brought with me actually laugh and get all goofy after only the first banana clip, and they remind me of the day 15 years after I already forgot they came to visit.
In PA, we still have old abandoned strip mines, where they came in and ruined the place to get to the coal near the surface 50 years ago, and about the only redeeming quality left to the places are that they are littered with small ponds where nothing can grow (because of the acid mine drainage, which is a result of the oxidation of metals exposed to the air and water) and so we find bottles and cans and whatever else the (other) rednecks dumped out there and blow the crap out of it with M16s, AK47s, Uzis, whatever.
One time we found a VW bug someone had torched but was still largely intact and my dad and I laid into until we had the thing literally rocking:) One of benefits of being the son of a Class 3 weapons dealer:)

That's why I am going to use BIG BIG bullets:) Slugs, actually. Believe it or not, their hide is so tough any kind of bird shot wont even work, and '00 buck shot isn't recommended on anything over 25 yards. Every hunter I know, that has any experience with them, told me horror stories about how they are like trying to kill zombies once they go into charging mode, and that I should never go alone because you need backup. In fact, most agree that while they aren't the most dangerous animal in the US, they are definitely one of the most dangerous animal to hunt because they are more likely to charge than run away, even the little ones, and they seem to come out of nowhere at close range.
I'm headed out on my bike tomorrow to go knock on farmers' doors to see if I can get permission to hunt on their land maybe the following Saturday, and then go shoot some skeet so I can to get comfortable with quick firing the gun and then maybe a range with the slugs to make sure I like the ammo, calibrate trajectory etc. before I go out in the field.
