I have a client who is currently using PayPal Standard. The problem is that if the customer fatfingers or does something slightly incorrect on Paypal, the message just says something along the lines of "invalid entry" but doesn't tell the customer WHAT exactly was wrong so they can correct it. Most customers just say "the hell with it" and go away.
My client is going to have his own brick and mortar store soon and would like to process credit cards on his own. I have no experience with this, and need advice from someone who does.
1. How much does this sort of thing cost?
2. What is a trusted company to do this with?
I'm not even sure what questions to ask, but wanted to put a flag out for anyone who might know.
JasonD?
I was struggling with this a while ago. Ended up with Paypal Website Payments Pro so you have complete control of the interface. That doesn't work for you on the B&M side, but here's what I wrote up while I was trying to find a good solution for a small merchant with physical goods, but no B&M retail.

WARNING: I write this stuff just so I don't forget my research. If I really understood it all and had the perfect solution, I wouldn't have bothered to write it down.
ergo: that is a ton of useful information! Thank you...
No problem... makes the head spin doesn't it?
BTW - after I wrote that, the Merchant Maverick guy saw my link and contacted me to say thanks. Turns out we met at PubCon. Seems like a good guy just trying to offer the best info he can and his site is pretty useful.
