Title: Firefox Private Browsing, Total Cookie Protection
Post by: littleman on June 02, 2021, 03:42:17 AM

QuoteAt Mozilla, we believe that your right to privacy is fundamental. Unfortunately, for too long cookies have been used by tracking companies to gather data about you as you browse the web. Today, with the launch of Firefox 89, we are happy to announce that Firefox Private Browsing windows now include our innovative Total Cookie Protection by default. That means: when you open a Private Browsing window, each website you visit is given a separate cookie jar that keeps cookies confined to that site. Cookies can no longer be used to follow you from site to site and gather your browsing history.

I'm confused about this. Is FF 'Private Browsing' the same as, or replacement for, Incognito?  As for standard cookies (versus supercookies & scripts), doesn't Incognito already prevent those from being set?

Incognito is chrome I thought?

>Chrome

Yeah, but not matter the branding, aren't all private browsing options killing **all** the standard cookies already?

I've never trusted chrome, and they have relaxed privacy features (like this iirc) in recent years. I seem to remember we had a discussion here about incog sessions not actually being private or wiped after the window is closed. There were some remnants, of what specifically, I don't recall.

There's little doubt that G is tracking incognito but not likely by cookies, Moz could be doing the same. The advantage of this FF appears to be that it supposedly block supercookies and some scripts.

IMO, the only thing that works is "data poisoning' and NoScript, which I do on the desktop with a couple of extensions (not the one mentioned below).  I've seen this mentioned a few times recently.

"Even if you are using a secure browser and enabling either incognito mode or private browsing, you are probably still getting tracked when you go online. In other words, your internet browser alone is not giving you much privacy."
