Yeah, that isn't really their motivation. What they really want to do is keep third-party seller's data away from buyers and buyers information away from sellers as much as possible. Amazon wants to be the firewall that handles all communication. The only time I get to see the buyer's address is if I ship directly, and they never disclose the buyer's phone number. They route all email communication threw their proxy. Letting buyers and sellers communicate directly would jeopardize their cash cow.
