So, Disney owns all Fox properties but the news part right?  So, Disney bought TMZ?

AFAIK, that's right.

I guess they want a little distance between a celeb gossip site and their main 'family' brand, like they did with Touchstone movies.

That's interesting, it makes me think that part of the reason for the acquisition will be  to control the narrative for some of their assets (actors they have contracts with).
