Good news.

If the workers had a bit of financial support from a union to enable them to hold out for a week instead of a day, more like an old-time strike, it would have a bigger effect.

This strike is mostly dependent on reaching people who use Instacart and getting them to pressure the company. That can work, but what percentage of people will you reach in one day?

And the company uses media to tell the users how much it will cost a customer out-of-pocket. Pressure dies.

The gig economy IS the gig economy because of rock-bottom pay.

But read to the end of that article: "Chipotle said that a 10% increase in wages would force it to increase menu prices by 2% to 3%."

Another study showed that for every 10% increase in wages, prices at MacDonald's would go up 1.4% and that a $15 min wage would add 17 cents to the cost of a burger.

For Instacart, how much that hurts depends on the average order value I guess. If I have to pay an extra $2 on $200 of groceries, do I care?

So I suspect you're right. Instacart will get out in the media with vague words about price increases, always avoiding actual numbers.

But I think the average Instacart customer likes to think of herself as an enlightened, compassionate person. I could be just giving in to stereotypes. I only know one person who uses Instacart.
