Historic go-ahead for malaria vaccine to protect African children
Saw that. It's great news if it works. It's super hard because malaria is a parasite, not a virus.
I had malaria in 1984 and it wasn't a huge deal to a well-fed, totally hydrated American who could afford the $16 it cost me to go to the doctor in India. But for a small child who is already not strong facing the more deadly strains that exist today, it's quite something to fight it off.
For my part, it's not an experience I would willingly repeat, but the cholorquine made me sick enough that I decided if I were traveling to India again, I'd just risk malaria again. But then the strains got more deadly, so I don't think I'd feel that way now.
