Thanks. I just sent that to a friend who did his doctorate on cosmic rays.

I had never heard of cosmic-ray dating.

I met an interesting guy at a birthday party over the weekend who is from northern Newfoundland - when he was in his late teens he used to work as a tour guide taking people to interesting Viking sites in his home town. He's now a professor of Adaptive Evolution at UCT.

Interesting! Amazing that they were able to sail for such a long journey and keep going. I wonder where we lost that tenacity over they years.

Indeed, there's still quite a large Viking influence in the far North of Scotland since they'd settled here for 100s of years.

Hope they weren't looking for some warmer climes given they found the UK, Iceland, Greenland and Canada and just gave up

Still nice to see these new discoveries rewriting history as we knew it.

>> interesting Viking sites

I've been to the site at L'Anse aux Meadows. All of it was mind-blowing, but the moment that moved me most was standing in front of an artifact in a display case, a woman's weaving tool from a thousand years ago.

Viking culture has always fascinated me and I had planned a tattoo in my late teens revolving around a Viking scene/story. It took until my early 30's to start but now the scene has evolved ;D
