Title: Need Laptop Suggestions
Post by: agerhart on May 06, 2011, 07:53:45 PM
I'm going to buy the wife a laptop for Mother's day...last minute, I know.

I don't stay current or know what the best laptops are.

She wants one of the mini ones.

I don't want to spend a ton of cash, but I also don't want to go cheapo and get a POS that will break in a year.  And she isn't a Mac person.

Any suggestions?

A Samsung N145 is a decent little netbook for under £200. Maybe worth sticking some more memory in though based on only coming with 1GB as standard.

I'm not well versed on the netbooks, but if you want a notebook I would suggest Lenovo (bought out ibm's notebook division.) You can get them for about $400 for base model on sale at local stores.

I second the Ideapad. I'm after a Thinkpad X120E myself, which has a similar spec inside the old X100 chassis. Unfortunately Lenovo aren't selling them in Europe though. :(

The Toshiba laptops always seem to be well made. Sturdy.

To late to this one but for anyone else looking at laptops I second Toshiba, the Tosiba laptops we have purchased over the years have outstripped the rest completly one is still going over 6 years and 2 dell laptops later. The only issue with Toshiba is the placements of input sockets especially usb ports, never enough and always stupidly placed.
