...the diversity allows for more aggressive filtering. I'm currently adding a massive tech news site to my reading list. In my case, news is in a state of over-supply so I find myself not worrying about nuking overly broad kws or phrases.
This new addition I'm trying to harness is a tech firehose and has already turned up a batch of good articles. It would be mind-numbing without filters.

Interestingly, the site has some sort of flood control that is frequently triggered by my js closing and removing mouseovered articles. First time I've run into that.
That is rather a firehose of info.
Honestly, I'm going the other direction. I was reading RSS feeds via Feedly and a couple months ago I had an issue logging in and I just haven't bothered to solve it. I've been on somewhat of a news diet since.

No kidding. And that's just tech.
Ergo, I'm just the opposite, I'm back to doom scrolling. Except it's better now than during the first covid lockdown, because of the infrastructure bill being passed. I follow about a dozen different train/rail/hsr/transit accounts on Twitter and now they actually have interesting stuff to talk about besides Covid, Doom and injecting bleach.

I figure that if something is really important we'll hear about it sooner or later.
I prefer to focus on things I can actually do something about rather than trying too hard to keep up to the "news".
So I'm well-informed about some things and clueless about others. Somehow I muddle through!

For some topics, like national news, this is true and part of why I can be liberal with more aggressive filtering. For other topics -say, celebrities, sports, even politics- I can almost shut it out completely.

I don't doomscroll, really, mostly by minimizing political|death|dismemberment|etc kws (though PLENTY of that seeps in around the periphery). That said, some topics like environment, climate, or even wild animals can be very, very bleak when you get the mile-high view over a long time span. OTOH, some topics -renewables, EVs- are seemingly on a positive trend.
