The tech is coming along, but nowhere near joe consumer readiness yet, imo.

Yeah.  I don't think anybody wants to hang out in a VR world run by facebook.  The notion seems quite dystopian to me.

Good article.  I watched a video of a person who was trying to monetize the metavers.  It looks a lot like Roblox to me too, but with a lot of lemonade stands.

In the near term, I agree. But:
50 years from now, it'll be an amazing escape from reality.
100 years from now, it'll be our default experience.
200 years from now, we live in the matrix.

Do you mean VR or Zuckerberg's platform?  Oh, I think VR and AR will continue to grow and improve, I just don't think this is it.  Zuckerberg is not a genius, he just happened to launch FB at a time when Murdoch caused MySpace to implode.

QuoteIn its fourth quarter earnings report Wednesday, Meta said its new metaverse business lost $10 billion and its user base shrank for the first time in its history. Meta stock plummeted 26.4% Thursday, erasing nearly $240 billion from the company's valuation in the largest one-day wipeout in US corporate history.

When her kids were young, my sister had a part-time job at The Gap. They insisted that everyone do this weird Gap Cheer thing with a funky body movement and such to start the day. She just looked at the manager, who was much younger, and said: "Look, I will show up on time and be a good worker, but I was a teenager in the 1960s. We don't do company cheers. It's not negotiable."

A chain ice cream parlor opened in town a few years ago.  I went in.  I was the only customer.  As the two employees made my order one prompted the other and they started singing some sort of corporate fake cheerful ice cream song.  It just felt awkward. I now know why I was the only customer.  I never went back.
