Title: Hyundai’s solar car roof isn’t as dumb as it sounds | TechCrunch

This sentence caught my eye;
"In a world where average drivers drive 10,000 miles per year"

WHAT average driver??  I do 10k on my back-up beater!  When we had kids there were years that both of our cars did >40k each. I've always thought the standard 12k lease was a scam, btw. Nobody does only 12k a year unless they're in a nursing home.

lol I'm still driving the truck I bought in 2002. It had 16k miles on it (2000 model). It now has 145 I think. ~6500 miles/year on avg.

Amy's car balances it out though.

>> my EV discharges far more than 3-4 miles per day just sitting parked

Obvious given that everything electronic seems to function that way, but this had never occurred to me.

Now, for the campervan, it has occurred to me that you could have full 350W 1m x 2m panels on the roof in a trifold for a full KW of power. Possibly doubled on a large Sprinter-style van. If the campervan is 60% as efficient as a Sonata, then instead of 5-8 miles, I would get 15-25 miles.

>>10,000 miles per year

Even when we both had longish commutes in different directions, we only put more the 12K on a vehicle in a year if we take that vehicle on a major road trip halfway across the country or something.
