From the description of marmite, I don't blame the Danes for banning it one bit.

It tastes fantastic and is good for you contains vitamin B12  (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vitamin_B12) something which is reduced if you smoke or drink alcohol to excess (most of the UK) - plus loads of other ways it can be low

Denmark is now saying it was really a misunderstanding, and the importer didn't have the correct permits/licenses, etc.

I 'm going to have to try this stuff the next time I get to a place that might have it. I've tasted Vegemite, and read up on the stuff on wiki, but sounds interesting.

But why is it 'fortified'? Is there anything healthy in it?

>Quite simply if an item is legal in one of the EU countries then it is legal in the whole of the EU.
So why can't i buy marihuana from the Netherlands in my local super market?

Oh yeah. That's called "gedoogbeleid".

Basically it means that it's illegal but not too annoying so it's tolerated.

Ever worked on a gearbox and mistakenly got some burned 90w gear oil in your mouth?  It tastes like that.

honestly, I'm in the 'hate' camp but its not that bad, sort of tastes like very very concentrated beef stock with lots of salt (
Bovril is similar but less salty, although I seem to remember its less good for you because Marmite is yeast based, with inherent vitamins and bovril is bits of cow, with inherent chemicals).
