After following 3 "How to" instruction sites, the 4th one worked. My chromebook is now getting some years on it (G keeps sending 'no longer supported model') and it is low on disk space so I could only allocate 4gb. But FF appears to be running. Now to see if tampermonkey will run.

Looks like I got the most current version of FF, which apparently didn't happen on Flatpak until recently. Flatpak = github for linux??

Snap or snapsomething and Flatpak I keep seeing these names and keep wondering how they effect me and how do they allegedly make my like easier?
I saw a reference to FF being on snapsomething prior to being ported to flatpak. In my search, I ran across a few posts touting flatpak as the easy way to go. Two of the other sites giving a how-to were apparently pre-flatpak --and were more complicated and didn't work.
I also saw descriptions that said flatpak loaded apps in a type of sandbox. My linux install on a CB is also sort of a sandbox ---so nested sandboxes, I guess?
Anyway, it runs -though slower- than chrome AND I found the FF extensions that I need & use on Chrome. I'll see how it goes.

I had to bump the disk space a bit more (4.5gb, IIRC). 10gb would be great, but I ain't got it to give. Still, I was able to go through my feed routine and run my userscripts today without a major glitch.

When I recently updated Ubuntu LTS I remember it saying that after the upgrade Firefox would only be available via "Snap". It wasn't giving me a choice, so a bunch of Snap stuff was installed.
Yesterday, I got a friendly system reminder about the "Snap Store" updating. something something.

There is a Snap Store so I guess Ubuntu has this centralized store just like Apple has one and Windows (sorta) has one.
I still don't know why we need this Snap thing. Frankly, if they would just stock the standard software repositories for Ubuntu with some decent software and write better descriptions everybody would be happy.

On Chrome, I kept 5 pinned tabs and new tab. It galled me that locking tabs has been disabled. Pinned tabs on FF CBk used already thin resources, so I tried One Tab. Seems to help *AND* you can lock the urls and keep them in place.
I've now completely switched to FF on Linux-CBk. Overall, it was easier than I had feared, mostly due to the availability of the same extension functionality for the 10 extensions I used in Chrome --5 of them are for privacy/security, the remaining 5 are generally for managing high-volume, high-speed browsing.
If I'd had more disk space the migration would have been easier. Oddly, one much-used bookmarklet failed in FF and I managed to modify the js to get it to work. I also spent the better part of 2 days tweaking for speed and FF freezing. Because of that, I wouldn't recommend the switch to less technical users.

Userchrome is next --if I can find the file in the ChromeOS sandbox, hhh. Some FF UI clutter & spacing needs nuking or modifying to my liking.
