Jen's aunt and uncle's house in Naples got hit pretty bad.  Both their cars are under water right now.  Both are safe and in Portland at the moment.

Wow.  That pink building just sailed away.

Note to self:  Don't move to Florida.  The Mid-West may be boring but I'll take it.

Just heard it's heading towards the Carolina's.

So any of you folks there had better stay safe. Or else. :-)

That's horrifying!

I just taught my bi-weekly paleography class yesterday and one of the participants was supposed to be a direct hit, but I guess the storm moved off the predicted course and they just got a bit of rain. Her comment was, "I'm glad we were spared, but I feel bad for the people who thought they were out of the storm path and therefore hadn't prepped for it." I hadn't thought of that.

There has been a pattern for the last couple of years for hurricanes to hit the gulf, then cross eastward to the Atlantic, re-entering the ocean around Jax. Then heading for the Carolinas.  Because of that history Debbie sounded the alarm to family members along the SC coast 2 days early and they had time to batten down.

Ian is supposed to head inland from Charleston SC and cross into central or central-western North Carolina.  We've discussed before that the danger & damage in our hilly, wooded urban areas tends to be disproportionately high --trees down, flash floods, etc..

It just made landfall between Charleston and Myrtle Beach at Georgetown. Rock 'n roll!

Family in Charleston says they are ok. Trees down, some deep flooding in low areas.

It's gone inland now.  We did have a tornado warning around 6pm. Rain & winds here are quieting down.  I'd be surprised if there is any significant damage locally. The central part of the state is reporting trees down and power outages.
