Queen's Gambit gave it a nice boost but it's heading upwards from there.

Raging as I was winning a game and it DC'ed and marked me as a loss (not quite winning but saved myself a bit)

ricardoscotia on there if anyone wants a game.

damn cats. I own two so doing my fair share for them without knackering my fledgling chess rating.

My son (he is 11) has been playing on chesskid.com (the kid version of chess.com) a lot over the past couple years. He regularly beats me (although I did smoke him yesterday) and I believe his rating is around 1300. I can move the pieces around but he spends quite a bit of time studying openings, analyzing games, working on specific tactics, etc. A lot of my friends have really gotten into chess over the past couple years as well.

It is amazing to see what a popular show or movie (and being stuck at home for a couple years) can do for hobbies like this.

IMO let him loose on the adult pop. I watched a video recently where a 3 year old was giving grand masters a close run.

There's definitely bot players but 5 min games or less you're good to go. I'm told such short games might hurt strategy, but online you tend to avoid it by playing faster games.
