Two possible lessons from your previous felony conviction for running from the police and getting caught.
1. Don't run, which leads to, "I shouldn't try to run from the police because they have radios and lots of support and ways to catch people and felony convictions are really bad things."
2. Don't get caught which leads to, "I need a faster motorcycle."

I ran so many police and state highway patrol cars I lost count. It wasn't an impulse as much as a decision. My AH 3000 had been modified for street racing and I rat-raced a couple of times a week. Until the area HP got a Plymouth Fury Pursuit Commando or Pursuit Super Commando (everybody called them Interceptors, but that was Ford) nothing could keep up in a long stretch nor handle as well on tight streets. My M-O was to take the pursuit into town where I'd lose them in the close-quarter residential blocks. The city police had more or less retired the Harleys and their Ford cars were jokes, you could hear their valves rattle from a block away.
I ran enough that the city sent a police delegation to tell my dad. What they didn't know was my dad was a speed freak ...I had grown up in the back seat of his Cadillac at 120 mph. (He bought my mom a Fury Commando station wagon with a 383!) His answer was the stuff of legend-building "Did you catch him?" No sir. "Well, when you catch him, let me know."
Fair enough. We also ran from the police on dirt bikes that we were riding illegally on city streets to get to trails. That was easy as long as you had some dirt to run to.
But then again, none of us ever got a felony conviction for this. It's not the running that leads me to say, "poor impulse control." It's the running with a felony conviction on your record for running and then assaulting an officer when you're cornered, all the while carrying a loaded handgun. That's where you pass from kids having fun to someone who is not likely to live a happy life.

I did get arrested plenty, though. Some, like reckless driving, I beat. But the open highway speeding in big block muscle cars was what got me. In the end, I lost my license and drew a suspended jail sentence.
