there are a number of important emails that google continually put into spam, regardless of how I flag them, but these are not important to me, but I do wonder how they end up as a self spam.

Since I find the majority of these alerts to be false (e.g. a crawl that somehow failed to retrieve the CSS and says fonts are too small or something like that), that seems like a good place for them to go ;-)
I get mostly political (gop), "working capital" and "business loan" spam plus the occasional offer to build an app or website. Fake godaddy notifications seem to come in spurts.
Some old RV club notifications are filtered to spam, where I scan the snippets if I'm interested.
Lately, I have changed the filters for political (gop), "working capital" and "business loan" to just go ahead and delete/trash them so they don't even clutter up my spam folder.
