To date, most work seems to have been done on thought to text, which seems (based on nothing at all other than my gut reaction) somewhat easier in that the human is probably learning the process too.

Which elicits all sorts of uptopian and dystopian scenarios. Notably, if we can go from thought to text, how long until we can go from text to thought? And that raises the possibility of fluid communication with deaf people and the possibility that not everyone who claims the government is beaming messages into their heads will be schizophrenic.
