Title: Bluesky
Post by: Brad on May 02, 2023, 11:43:52 AM
Twitter spun this off before Elon took over.   With Twitter now charging $$$ for cross-posting via their API people are looking for alternatives.  SOme platforms like Micro.blog are adding Bluesky support even though Bluesky is still invite only.  I thought it should be mentioned as Twitter continues to implode.

Bluesky is reported to be Twitter-like.

Have you tried Post.news?  I'm curious about which one you like more.

This is the first I'm hearing of it, so thank you LM.  I mainly use Twitter for news (ie. Ukraine War), special interests (ie. urban planning, rail transportation, old holywood, state news) and keeping track of a few friends so from a news angle Post.news looks good to me.  I might give it a try.

I've no experience with Bluesky and don't have an invite so I can't speak to it.

I joined.  It's not completely free.  Joining is free and easy.  They use a points system, 1 pt. = 1 cent, to access "premium content" and so you can tip creators.  I got 50 points upon joining.  So the getting around paywalls is not free, but might be cheaper than paying for a full subscription.  Ihave not seen what the charge is for a premium article.  You can earn points by sharing articles.  But like everything the odds are in favor of the "house" (as in gambling) so sooner or later you are going to have to give them your credit card info and dummy up some dough.  So it's a micro payment system.

I'm not sure how I feel about that.  I guess it depends on the news sources they make available and the cost.

As far a social network goes post.news basically outlaws everything including snark.  You can make reasoned comments I guess.

I haven't tested it or posted anything yet so I can't tell you how interaction works.
