This is a good idea. It would, of course, require standardization around a battery type. I just learned a couple days ago that there was a fleet of electric taxis in NYC during the turn of the last century had a similar setup. They would taxi around the city depleting their charge and then come in, swap out the battery box and then go out again. The whole process happened in a couple of minutes.
At least a decade ago, there was an Israeli startup trying to do it for cars.
The problem there is much bigger, since car batteries are not typically in a location that allows for quick change, they are super heavy and you wouldn't really want a car designed around a modular battery for the most part (it might make sense for long-haul trucks though).
We have a thread here somewhere about an EV company (Nio?) in China doing it. IIRC, it was to be an autonomous swap taking about 15 minutes.
