Unfortunately Gates has become the new George Soros - bogeyman for right-wing conspiracy theorists who are convinced that he was trying to inject everyone with a chip.
And sadly, a lot of these people have the ears of some politicians.
It will be interesting to see how this gets absorbed into the broader culture wars. Hopefully it won't, but few things escape that fate these days.
