I did something similar a couple of years ago when California had that record rain year. It was still raining at the time though. It's pretty satisfying to see a problem just go away like that.

Somewhat local hero. I dropped my 9 year old at the local velodrome yesterday morning for summer holiday mountain bike club. In the clubroom they were showing the triathlon on the TV, with one of Alex Yee's triathlon kits framed on the wall and about 20-30 members of his former triathlon club cheering on. The club run their cycle training sessions out of the velodrome and apparently Alex used to train here with them.
Also, the record holder at our local Parkrun, etc...
Great to have these examples to point our kids at. Ergo, I'll share that quote with my boys.

It's such a great quote. Patience with the process is such a hard thing at any age, but I think it's more so early on because there are all sorts of steps (like you have a clock ticking on Junior Nationals then a clock ticking in the US on collegiate sports careers).
But even for those of us who are older, we can make calendar-based goals (this year I will run a sub-20 5K or this year I will lose 20 pounds or whatever), but in the end, having the right process is so much more important than having the right outcome (Goodhart's Law and all that).
I'm guessing that to have that insight so young, Alex had some very good mentors at a young age.
