If some old ex-spammer could have his own distribution, why not these guys?
From their perspective it kind of makes sense. All the distros put their own spin on the big desktop environments. People then complain about this or that feature and the developers of Gnome and KDE have that development to consumer filter to deal with. This will let them do their own thing and point to their own distro to say "See, it works with OUR distribution, go yell at Ubuntu or RedHat".
