Don't panic, is Pichai's message. He argues that even in the age of AI Overviews, people will still want to click through and go deeper for many types of searches.

In other words, you get a few crumbs from the table.  Probably less than before.


Webmasters need to figure out better ways to keep AI bots out of our websites.

Debbie says you won't even get crumbs.  She's been watching people query their phones (and vehicle dash screens) ...there is zero opportunity for site traffic there.

Type-ins might benefit when a searcher gets serious and turns to the keyboard.  AI will have made them even lazier about search.

Debbie thinks that AI search monetization will roughly parallel Amz's failed effort with Alexa.  She foresees poor methodology & results with AI-driven marketing  ...which means that AI will have to turn to subscriptions in order to cover its costs.
