QuoteEvery hour I spent "winning" debates was an hour I could have spent learning. Drawing. Listening to Husker Dü. Every clever comeback I crafted was mental energy I could have used to understand complex issues more deeply. Every "victory" reinforced habits that made me worse at finding the truth.
IIRC, this is the only art/comic I've purchased online...

>> Every hour I spent "winning" debates
A big step for me in personal development was when I realized that I was not benefitting from arguing with the campus preachers from the Moonies and Maranathas and the people trying to say the Eagles were Satanists because of Hotel California. Side note: years later I was standing there watching two of these crazy preachers with a friend who was a pastor at the campus Reformed church and he shook and said, "Every day I try to counsel kids that it is possible to be intelligent and a Christian, and then these people come to campus and undo all my work."
>> Duty Calls
Probably my all-time favorite XKCD.
