This is sort of like robots.txt.

robots.txt is useful, but only insofar as it is effective at controlling well-behaved bots that seek to be compliant.

In Peter Hamilton's Pandora's Star/Judas Unchained, he outlines the more likely scenario - the AIs advance to such a level they grow bored of human affairs and self-exile to a planet where they can be left alone and leave humans with relatively rudimentary AI ;-)
